The Revolution Engine Revolution Engine 3-D cutaways The air-cooled Revolution Engine is designed with fewer than 100 parts, and has higher thermodynamic and mechanical efficiency than any piston engine on the market. There are two rotating masses. One is the cylinder/block assembly, the other the piston/crankshaft assembly. Both rotating masses are machine-balanced during assembly. The geometry of the connecting rods results in perfect primary balance during engine operation. There is almost no vibration. The Revolution Engine is fuelled like a blown 2-stroke and exhausts like a 4-stroke. The pistons, cylinders (with 2 spark plugs and one valve each) and block, rotate in perfect circles, around a fixed bearing mount. When the exhaust valves open, special design elements on each cylinder act like a rocket booster. The exhaust is directed counter to the direction of rotation and is used for a secondary burst of impulse power, dramatically boosting engine efficiency and recapturing 5% of the energy in the exhaust stream, before being sent to a second air cooling chamber in the external case. The case can be equipped with regenerating nano-filters, (current diesel technology) which can eliminate all particulate emissions. The case also functions as a Faraday shield eliminating electro magnetic interference. The engine is air-cooled. Since so much of the fuel is burned and turned into mechanical energy, and because of the extremely low friction inherent in the design, very little waste heat is created. The fan-like motion of the spinning cylinders’ fins is sufficient to maintain an even operating temperature. No radiator, hoses, pumps, or glycol coolant is needed because the engine operating temperature is 30 degrees centigrade lower! We can produce smaller, lighter, less expensive engines for vehicles without loss of horsepower. These engines require only half of the fuel , and produce less than half of the pollution and greenhouse gasses per mile per horsepower. Vehicles equipped with these engines will last longer, pollute less, and be easier to repair than any current piston connecting rod internal combustion engine design. The engine manufactures should be able to offer the engine at a low initial cost to the consumer. They should also enjoy lower operating and repair costs. Reassembly after complete teardowns takes only three hours. Design the car around the engine (no radiator, pumps, or glycol disposal problems, better aerodynamics) and more than double the fuel efficiency of any vehicle of a given weight. The Revolution Engine is ideal for hybrid vehicles from cars, stationary power applications, and is easily adaptable for multi-fuel use. They can be retrofit into any existing vehicle currently powered by piston engines. |
